**Rereading our textbooks is always a source of new discoveries. “Miniature Ikebana”, Exercise 15 of Textbook 5 states that miniatures originated in medieval illuminated manuscripts and later appeared in small portraits exchanged between prospective marriage partners—perhaps an early form of online dating.
Inspired by this idea, I revisited a book featuring Kasumi Teshigahara's beautiful miniature arrangements and created one of my own. In a way, it is also a dating arrangement: spring meeting summer, Japanese vessels meeting small Mexican containers received at a wedding celebration, and some flowers from my Miami garden bringing them together.
Creating it became a quiet meditation on how different treasures can retain their individual beauty while contributing to a greater harmony. As my family and I prepare for a new adventure, this small arrangement offered me a sense of gratitude and calm, a reminder that every new beginning is supported from countless encounters of the past.**
